Snook season has been good despite the excessive rain and dirty water we have had. We have caught a lot of slot and over slot snook in Sebastian Inlet and the Indian River Lagoon. Along with Snook, we have had great action for several inshore species in the lagoon with Trout to 29″, some slot and over slot redfish, jack crevalle and flounder. Snook, redfish, trout, Tarpon, jacks sharks are in the inlet and near shore along the beaches from Melbourne to Vero Beach.
The mullet run is heating up and looks to be strong if we can get rid of this rain and the NE winds. The first north wind of the season came this week and started the push of bait outside and to the south and with the mullet come tarpon, sharks, jacks, bluefish and mackerel. WE have been using a mix of Live bait, Hogy paddletails and eels on 2 ounce jigheads, XRap 14 and DOA Baitbusters fishing the glass minnow and mullet schools from Melbourne down to Sebastian and Vero Beach.
If the winds stay up and we can’t fish the beaches, we will key in on the creeks from Sebastian to Melbourne for Tarpon, snook, jacks and sharks.
